About Venus

Outside Venus' Corporate Office In 1982, entrepreneurial spirit and a love for weightlifting inspired college senior Daryle Scott to launch Titan Bodybuilding, a mail-order company specializing in competitive bodybuilding suits.

Daryle and three friends each invested $5,000 in the new venture, which operated out of Daryle's apartment in Jacksonville, Florida. Within five months, Titan was so successful that Daryle quit his 'day job' to devote full attention to the new company.

In 1984, Daryle created Venus Body Wear, selling ladies' leotards and exercise apparel via full-page ads in Cosmopolitan and other national magazines. A year later, the offerings were expanded to include swimwear-and Venus Swimwear was born!

In 1999, VENUS acquired WinterSilks, the world's largest importer of luxurious silk fashions, apparel, and undergarments, sold through mail-order at direct-to-consumer value prices.

Beach-inspired day & evening clothing was added in 2000 to fabulous customer response. VENUS offers the hottest, latest looks including sexy must-have dresses, tops, shoes and pants along with other popular fashions. Reflecting the expanded swimwear & apparel offerings, the company name is now VENUS, and continues to grow at a phenomenal rate, now one of the world's largest retailers of fashion swimwear with company sales of roughly $100 million!

Venus Store at St. Johns Town Center, Jacksonville VENUS swimwear and women's clothing is available only through the VENUS mail-order catalogs, Venus.com website or three retail stores in Florida.

In November 2006, investment firm, Golden Gate Capital acquired Venus, WinterSilks and Venus Manufacturing under the Venus Holdings Division. Golden Gate is one of the largest direct retailers in the nation with sales in excess of $3 billion and holdings in Spiegel, Newport-News, Express, Carabella and Rocket Dog.
